Minnesota celebrates 75 years of wildlife management areas: ‘Save the Wetlands’ to 1.38M acres
Beginning Friday at National Pheasant Fest and Quail Classic at the Minneapolis Convention Center, the Minnesota DNR will kick off its year-long 75th anniversary celebration of the state’s much-envied wildlife management area (WMAs) system – a program that began as a way to save wetlands in era of breakneck drainage.
State officials say the 75th anniversary celebration, which will include events across Minnesota throughout 2026, highlights a system that protects wildlife habitat for future generations, provides access for hunting, fishing, trapping and other outdoor recreation, and promotes wildlife-based tourism across the state.
