Long Island shark fishing: Some anglers now catch sharks for science, not just for sport

Sportfishing for sharks got its start off the coast of New York about 75 years ago, after Montauk charter boat captain Frank Mundus realized that his customers were having more fun catching the sharks that they hooked accidentally than they had fighting the fish that they were actually trying to catch.
That was an important revelation, for in those days, offshore fishermen held sharks in low regard.
