Women tend to pick up the basic skills of fly casting much easier than men – and the reason for this comes with a wry chuckle from a long-time Michigan fly fishing instructor.
“Women read the instructions,” John Cleveland explained. “That’s not a slight toward guys. But each year we get husbands and wives who come together to learn how to fly fish. The women are often much faster at learning.” Cleveland and two dozen other Trout Unlimited instructors are preparing to welcome beginners and experienced anglers of both sexes to the Michigan Trout Unlimited Fly-Fishing School.
