University of Wisconsin study shows walleyes struggle with changes to spring thaw

Walleyes, one of the most sought-after species in freshwater sport fishing in the Midwest, are also struggling to survive in the warming waters of the Midwestern United States and Canada.
According to a new study published Feb. 26 in the journal Limnology and Oceanography Letters, part of the problem is that walleyes are creatures of habit, and the seasons – especially winter – are changing quickly enough to prevent walleyes from keeping up.
