Feds provide grants to cap wells in Pennsylvania’s Allegheny National Forest

Dozens of abandoned and orphaned oil and gas wells in the Allegheny National Forest have been earmarked for plugging, remediation and reclamation this year through a federal bipartisan initiative administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
Pennsylvania will receive funding to cap 37 wells in the forest – known as the ANF – as part of a multi-year $250 million program launched in 2022 to clean up thousands of defunct sites on federal public lands in 24 states.
