Pennsylvania Game Commission to meet pheasant program goals despite avian flu outbreak

Published: , in Outdoor News

The Pennsylvania Game Commission’s pheasant propagation program is on schedule this year after an avian influenza outbreak at a private game farm forced the agency to take protective measures.
In December 2023, an avian influenza outbreak at Martz’s Gap View Hunting Preserve in Northumberland County resulted in the loss of approximately 100,000 pheasants and chukars at the facility. The Game Commission purchases pheasant chicks from the Mahantongo Game Farm, which is located a few miles from the Martz operation.
