Night vision allows you to see relatively clearly in dark surroundings. Night vision can be divided in three categories. Image intensification, active illumination and thermal imaging.
Image intensification or low light night vision
Low light night vision works with a photomultiplier tube that magnifies the residual light. It only needs a small number of photons to ‘create’ a dimly lit scene that you can observe with the naked eye. The light isn’t amplified but rather intensified.
Which bring us to active illumination. Where infra-red illumination is captured by a camera sensitive to this spectrum of light. Usually resulting in a clearer, higher resolution, image. Active illumination can be detected by night vision goggles.
Note that most regular low light vision can’t hand lights very well. Depending on the quality of the tube even relatively weak light sources can destroy your equipment, so just use it at night with natural light sources like stars.
Thermal vision is the last category, where the image shows the difference in temperature between background and foreground objects. They don’t need a source of illumination and can even be used during the day.
Hunting.gg offers you a comparison tool with which you can compare different night vision scopes and goggles for different specifications. Feel free you share your experience with other users by writing a review, that helps out everyone.
Different types of night vision gear
There are night vision monoculars, binoculars, goggles and scopes. Some take the place of your rifle scope, others are used as an extention to the rifle scope.
